Executive Director, Lowcountry Legal Volunteers

Lowcountry Legal Volunteers (LLV) is seeking an executive director. We are a volunteer-based legal aid organization serving Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties, with our offices located in Bluffton. Founded in 1998, Lowcountry Legal Volunteers provides free, critical legal services and education through licensed staff attorneys, community volunteers and retired lawyers to low income individuals and families in need.

We have five paid staff positions, including that of executive director. Our offices are open Monday through Thursday each week and the executive director is compensated based on a four-day work week.  We are seeking an experienced, visionary and passionate leader who inspires board members, staff and community and business partners to achieve success.

Reporting to a Board of Trustees, the executive director position requires a person with strong leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, a willingness to fundraise and a commitment to help the underserved members of our community. The Executive Director brings vision and executes strategy, advancing LLV ‘s mission to constituents, donors, and partners, including fundraising and revenue generating partnerships; promoting LLV through public speaking, the media, donor relations, and strategic planning; and working with the staff, Board of Trustees and external stakeholders to ensure that LLV continues to thrive operationally and strategically. Reporting to LLV’s Board of Trustees, the right candidate embraces a culture of integrity, collaboration, while providing strategic leadership.

With an upcoming move to a new joint-social service agency headquarters, LLV is poised for growth, including new volunteer and fundraising opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of not-for-profit leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to manage and motivate team members and stakeholders while remaining flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrated fundraising results with excellent networking/relationship-building skills and ability to engage board members, donors, and community partners.
  • Thorough understanding of technology-use of social media for fundraising and marketing purposes.
  • Experience in grant writing and reporting.
  • Prior legal services experience, particularly an understanding of how underserved persons engage with the legal system or other non-profit experience preferred.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) with license to practice law in South Carolina or other advanced degree preferred.  Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Supports a culture of integrity and collaboration while providing strategic leadership.

Salary: This position offers a starting salary range of $50,000-$55,000 dependent upon experience. Opportunity for raises based on performance and the organization’s budget.
